An introduction:

Overstaying in Turkey might occur in three possible ways; A foreign national, might overstay a visa; or might breach the 90 in 180 days rule during his/her stay in Turkey, or might continue to stay in Turkey without renewing his/her residence permit after its expiry period.

Tourists on e-visas who remained longer than the 90-day limit of the 180-day rules as well as foreign residents who did not renew their residence permit.

 

What is 90 in any 180 Days Rule?

90 in any 180 Days Rule In compliance with the Decision of the Council of Ministers dated 10.10.2011, No: 2011/2306, starting from 01 February 2012, total duration of stay of foreigners who visit Turkey as tourists cannot exceed 90 days in any 180 days period.

Thus, foreigners, who are intending to stay in Turkey longer than the mentioned period (90 days in 180 days period), have to apply for residence permit.

What happens if you overstay your visa in Turkey?

If you are overstaying your visa, you will have to pay a fee as a penalty. Additionally, if you refuse to pay or cannot at that time, you will be banned from entering Turkey for up to 5 years.

 

The consequences and fines of overstaying in Turkey

Overstaying the allowed period for you causes visa violation, foreigners with visa violations have to pay administrative fines. In case the foreigner has a violated visa and stays illegally in Turkey, he will be banned from entering the country for a period that ranges from 1 month to five years.

The fine will be 50 USD (First month fee) + 10 USD for each month after the first month.

However, the amount of Fine for overstaying visa in Turkey applied on the foreigner varies from one foreigner to another according to his citizenship, the cause of his overstay.

For Azerbaijan citizens, 50 USD (First month fee) + 70 USD for each month after the first month.

For Georgia citizens, 50 USD (First month fee) + 40 USD for each month after the first month).

The duration prohibition of entry according to foreigners’ violations:

  • Violation up to 3 months: Prohibition of entry for 3 months
  • Violation between 3 months – 6 months Prohibition of entry for 6 months
  • Violation between 6 months – 1 year Prohibition of entry for 1 year
  • Violation between 1 year – 2 years Prohibition of entry for 2 years
  • Violation more than 2 years Prohibition of entry for 5 years

 

Where to pay overstaying fees?

Undoubtedly, foreigners who stay illegally in Turkey must pay overstaying fines as soon as possible. The mentioned fine is paid to the visa violation office located at the airports.
