Time magazine added Istanbul to the list of the world’s greatest places.

In 2022, Time Magazine has released a list of the world’s greatest places in its latest issue. Moreover, Time Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places list includes 50 extraordinary destinations to explore. Türkiye’s “most magical city” has been selected as one of these great places. Thus, Türkiye’s top tourist destination became part of the list compiled by the magazine’s editorial staff.

Undoubtedly, the list was prepared with the aim of being a guide for those who want to improve their understanding of the world and human connections through travel.

Istanbul is described as “a classic reborn”. The magazine explains why Istanbul is one of the world’s greatest places in a brief article as well. Galataport:

Galataport is located in Istanbul’s historic Karakoy neighborhood. The magazine stated that Galataport is home to the world’s first underground cruise terminal. Where passenger services are tucked below a waterfront promenade. Moreover, the terminal is the product of a 1.7 billion dollars harborside investment. MSC Fantasia, Viking Sky, Seabourn Encore, and Seven Seas Explorer are just a few of the cruise ships that leave from or arrive at the new port. Galataport also includes a number of cultural and artistic facilities. In addition to a hotel, entertainment area, a commercial center, several restaurants and cafes with interesting views of the Bosphorus.

 

Istanbul Modern: 

Istanbul Museum of Modern Art is Turkey’s first museum of modern and contemporary art. The museum was designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano in a building occupying an 8,000 square meter site in Karaköy on the shores of the Bosphorus.

Through its collections, exhibitions, and educational programs.. The museum aims to instill a love of the arts in visitors from all walks of life and encourage their active participation in the arts. 

Now, Istanbul Modern has moved to its temporary space in Beyoğlu. Where it hosts all exhibitions and events until its new building in Karaköy is completed. The museum’s temporary space, which hosts a broad array of interdisciplinary activities, is a historical building in Beyoğlu that houses collection and temporary exhibition halls, photography gallery, educational and social programs, library, cinema, cafe, and store.

Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM):

Atatürk Cultural Center is a concert hall, theater and cultural center running along the eastern side of Taksim Square in Beyoğlu, Istanbul. In 2021, it reopened to the public as a state-of-the-art cultural complex after a 13-year reconstruction period. The new Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) transforms a 1960’s classic for cultural life into a new urban magnet for future generations. Moreover, Ataturk Cultural Center will be the new centrally-located home for Istanbul’s arts and culture scene. Not only will the new center have one of the largest opera houses in the world. But it will also provide art galleries, libraries, cafes and restaurants for visitors.
