Admission requirements for Turkish universities:

Turkish universities are attracting international students, especially Arab and African students each year. Not only because they are considered as the best universities in the world, but also because their requirements are easily achievable. Unlike other Universities in European countries, Turkish Universities don’t have difficult admission requirements.

There are two types of universities. Thus, students have the possibility to choose from state universities or private universities. It is worth noting that the requirements to study at state universities and private universities are different.

 

Admission requirements for public Turkish universities:

Public universities in Turkey require passing their admission test, which is called Yös test.. As this test is one of the prerequisites for applying to the public universities.

Most universities require a grade of 90% and above so that the student can choose the medical specialties (medicine, pharmacy, dental medicine). For engineering majors, students must have a grade average of 65% or above.

Additionally, public universities have a specific number of seats for foreign students in each major. Therefore, the priority of admission in the public Turkish universities depends on each student’s profile which includes high school scores. In addition, the admission depends on the evaluation committee and student’s application form.

Documents required to apply to Turkish public universities:
  • A high school diploma or transcript, translated and notarized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • A copy of the passport, valid for at least 6 months.
  • A personal photo with a white background.
  • IOS or SAT certificate, if available.
  • Language and international certificates, if available.

Bearing in mind that public universities have a system of preferences and the opening and closing dates for applications differ from one university to another.

 

Admission requirements for private Turkish universities:

Private universities in Turkey don’t require complicated admission requirements. Thus, enrollment in these universities is very easy. They only require a high school diploma and do not require any other entrance exams.

Private Turkish universities don’t require high scores of high school, as the student can register with any academic rate above 50% to study any of the majors, except for medical programs. Although, some universities require higher rates for studying medical majors, which may reach 75% or more.

Documents required to apply to Turkish public universities:
  • A copy of the student’s passport.
  • A recent personal photo/graph.
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) with the transcript.
  • English proficiency certificate such as TOEFL or IELTS, if any, (if the student prefers to study in English).
  • Recommendation letter for students applying for a master’s degree.
