Pets can travel safely and comfortably to Turkey. In recent years, the procedures for taking pets into and out of Turkey have become easier.

Turkish authorities allow 2 pets per person to enter the country tax-free. Your pets must not be carriers of zoonotic diseases, have internal or external parasites, or be in poor health.

  • Pet passport.
  • Veterinary health certificate.
  • Initial vaccination card or proof of up-to-date previous vaccination and deworming.
  • Blood tests (such as FAVN), anti-rabies vaccination certificate
  • Pet Microchip.
  • Import permit, if you are bringing in pets for trade purposes.

Procedures and conditions for traveling with pets from and to Turkey:

Your pet must first be microchipped with an ISO 11784 pet microchip that is a 15 digit and non-encrypted.

Moreover, your pet should travel with an up-to-date vaccination record (especially against rabies) to show to authorities.

You will also have to obtain a Veterinary Health Certificate and Country of Origin Certificate stating that your pet is healthy enough to travel, free of zoonotic diseases and parasites, and that includes other identity and health information.

Before your dog or cat can enter Turkey, it must be treated against internal parasites (Echinococcus) and external parasites (fleas, ticks) and indicated on the health certificate.

Furthermore, puppies and kittens under 3 months of age can enter Turkey with their mother who meets the requirements or with a health declaration.

If your pet is not a dog, cat or ferret, and especially if it is a turtle or parrot, you should verify that it is not protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

It is worth noting that the following breeds are not permitted for entry: Pitbull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and mixed breeds.

It is better to use a pet transportation company to ensure all the procedures.
